Molson Coors Brewing Company from Burton-on-Trent, have been sentenced after a delivery driver was hit by a forklift truck.
Peter Jackson, 64, was hit by the forklift truck at on 20 May 2008 in an accident at work as he walked through the canning factory looking for a place to unload. He received a personal injury to both his foot and wrist and has been unable to return to work since.
A Health and Safety Executive (HSE) investigation found the firm had ‘failed to follow previous advice from HSE to devise and implement a safe workplace transport system’ in December 2007.
Molson Coors, based at High Street, Burton-on-Trent, pleaded guilty to breaching Sections 2 and 3 of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and Regulation 3(1) of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 and was fined £31,000 and ordered to pay £33,042 costs by Cannock Magistrates' Court.
It is understood that Mr Jackson intends to sue the brewery for personal injury compensation.
